Context-Aware POS: from 6 clicks to 1 tap during peak hours
A point-of-sale system that adapts to time of day and context, so ordering during a rush no longer feels like clicking through a complicated menu.
Context: Hospitality business
During peak hours, entering a simple order already took 4 to 6 clicks per item. During busy periods at the bar or table, this caused noticeable friction and delay.
Significantly increasing speed without introducing complicated menu structures or requiring extensive staff training — the solution had to feel faster, not more complex.
A point-of-sale system that takes time of day and context into account: different suggestions in the afternoon than in the evening, with smart 1-tap combo suggestions instead of clicking through each item separately.
The first version was a zero-database, touch-only interface with short “quick codes” for fast entry (for example “2cap, beer, beef”) and automatic menu switching based on time of day.
Orders took 60% fewer clicks on average, with a noticeably faster turnaround at the bar and tables during busy periods.
Staff turned out to prefer the short quick codes over traditional category buttons — adopting real-world shorthand worked better than a neatly structured menu.
A split-payment billing module, a live table floor plan, and integration with a kitchen display system (KDS) are planned as next steps.
