Trip Inspiration Planner: from decision fatigue to a trip plan in three steps
A web app that takes visitors from picking a destination to a complete, visual day-by-day plan in three simple steps — no booking involved, purely for inspiration.
Context: TravelTipsCompass (Amsterdam & Indonesia)
Travellers who want to build their own trip often get stuck in decision fatigue: dozens of sights, no sense of what logically belongs together, and eventually piecing together a route by hand in a notes app or spreadsheet anyway.
The challenge wasn't showing a list of tips, but combining logical clustering — what's close together, by neighbourhood or island — with visual appeal. A trip plan shouldn't just make sense, it should make you want to go.
We built a dynamic route generator that works from categorised building blocks: every sight has a location, a type and an estimated duration, letting the system propose a logical day plan on its own instead of a random list.
The first version launched as a standalone portal web app with more than 40 points of interest, automatically proposing a day plan per chosen destination and number of days, including smart filling of remaining time.
Within three simple steps — destination, must-sees, trip plan — a visitor gets a complete visual day-by-day itinerary, including alternative suggestions per stop.
Imagery and being able to instantly see alternatives turned out to have the biggest impact on conversion: over 80% of the decision came down to “can I immediately tell if this fits me”, not the amount of text or explanation.
A direct booking module, a live flight-price API integration, and a PDF export of the final trip plan are the logical next steps.
