Learning & Onboarding Hub: from information overload to a manageable learning journey
A visual learning journey with microlearning and a direct buddy pairing, onboarding new employees step by step with visible progress.
Context: Professional services, new employee onboarding
New employees were hit with a flood of information on day one, resulting in low knowledge retention and tasks that were simply forgotten in the first weeks.
Actually translating the well-known 70:20:10 learning model — practice, coaching, theory — into a manageable, motivating daily flow, instead of a thick onboarding document.
A visual learning journey, built from small microlearning steps, a direct buddy pairing for personal guidance, and visible progress per phase.
The first version was a serverless timeline app that tracked progress locally, with simple checkboxes per task and an immediately visible progress percentage.
Employees reported higher satisfaction with their onboarding, with clearer ownership of their own programme instead of relying on ad hoc explanations.
Pairing with a concrete, personal buddy — the 20% coaching component — turned out to be the biggest success factor, more so than the content itself.
Automatic notifications to the buddy when a phase is completed, and AI-generated quiz questions to test knowledge, are the next step.
